Proposal:

a) What are the digital effects and art style to be used in creating your title sequence? How will this engage an audience?

I am going to use smoke as a digital effect in my title sequence. I will use the smoke effect on the characters and props when the scene or image is changing so it has an interesting transition. This will engage with the audience as it will indicate what the genre of the TV series is, which is crime, as smoke represents fire and/or gun shots which relates to murder. To do this effect, I will create it in Adobe Premier and find a short clip online of smoke as I can film my own. It will look like realistic as I will make it blend in with the scenes well.

b) What is the title sequence trying to convey and how does it connect to a target audience?

My title sequence will try to convey the audience to feel curious throughout it. I will do this by using clips from the scenes in the show which gives slight hints away of which happens in the show without giving too much away. This will make the audience think what will happen in the show and then will make them want to watch it to find out the answers. The target audience will be drawn into this title sequence because they love crime which involves mystery so is why I wanted to make my title sequence mysterious. It will be a dark title sequence with the lighting and colours as I want it to feel serious and spooky. The target audience are the ages of 16-40 years old so they will enjoy watching it as them ages feel more mature to watch dark and serious shows.

c) How will the visual effects work to create a dynamic and visually arresting title sequence for a target audience?

The visual effects I'm going to create in my title sequence is smoke. The reason why I have chosen this style of effect is because the smoke symbolises danger which will suit the target audience as they like to watch dangerous tv shows. Another reason is because it will create a mysterious feel to the show which connects to the genre crime. The visual effect of the smoke will create be dynamic and visually arresting to the target audience because it represents fire which then symbolises danger. It will catch the target audience eyes as most tv shows they watch has smoke from fire in it so they will know they will enjoy watching the show.

d) What materials will you need?

I will need to use a vary of materials for y title sequence as I want it to be as realistic and professional as possible. To represent the police I will need: police tape, blue flashing lights, police uniform, detective badge and paperwork. By using these props it will give a clear indication to the audience that the show is about crime so they know what the genre is straight away. I will also need a fake knife and fake blood to represent the murder. This will draw the target audience in because they enjoy watching crime and violence so these props/materials will give a clear indication that the show includes what they like to watch.

e) What technical equipment will you need? e.g. cameras, visual effects software etc.

To film the title sequence, I will obviously need a camera however, I will need to use a tripod for it for shots that I want the camera to be steady for. The tripod will allow me to create many different shot types which will make it more interesting for the audience to watch. When it comes to editing the title sequence , I will be using the software Adobe Premier to put all the footage together and also to create the visual effects of the smoke. This is the best software for me to use when editing videos and I feel very comfortable and confident using it.

f) How will you ensure that your title sequence’s genre, theme and story is clear to understand for a target audience in relation to the visual effects and TV show itself.

To ensure my title sequence is clear to understand for my target audience I will make it obvious to them that the genre is crime. I will do this by using props like weapons, police equipment/uniform etc because they all symbolise crime and violence. By letting the target audience know what the genre is through the title sequence, it will make them want to watch the show as they know they like that type of show. I've decided to have a narrative in the title sequence by showing very short clips of scenes that takes place in the show like when the girl gets taken and showing the knife she is killed with. This will give the target audience an idea of what the story is but it also won't give to much away. As the target audience likes crime, they enjoy the unknown as being curious to what may happen next as it puts them on the edge of their seats. So by not giving to much of the story away it will make them intrigued to watch the show as they know a murder happens and they will want to know who, why, and how it was done. For visual effects, I will be creating a smoke effect that will appear behind the characters and all over the screen when the shot changes. The reason why I have decided to do this is because it will give the title sequence a mysterious look which ties in well with the theme crime as shows with this theme keeps the audience guessing what's going to happen next. The smoke represents fire which symbolises danger. This will excite the target audience as they love to feel like they are on edge and as though they are in danger as they thrive off that feeling.
