Title Sequence - Evaluation
At the start you said what success would look like to you – were you successful (explain)?
I said I wanted to be proud of my work and to learn more about visual effects. I am proud of the work I did but I do feel though that I could've included another visual effect. However the visual effect I did with the smoke I am proud of as I think it looks effective and I learnt how to do that whilst making the title sequence.
What was the hardest part?
The hardest part of creating this title sequence was the filming. This is because when I first recorded all the shots the quality was very poor because the camera was broken. To fix this I simply re-filmed all the footage while making sure the camera was in good condition and all the settings were all correct. Also, when I would play my title sequence to see how it looks before exporting it, the tape head would jump back every so often so it made it very difficult for me to see how well my editing was as I couldn't watch it all smoothly.
What was the most enjoyable part?
For me, the part I enjoyed doing the most was editing the text and smoke effect together. To do this effect I searched on YouTube smoked effect and downloaded the one I like the most. I then put it into my project and overlapped it o the text and changed the blending mode to screen. I also had to create a polygon shape in opacity and place over the text then move it along with the smoke while pressing the toggle animation so that the text would appear when the smoke as gone past. I never done that effect before so I had to research it by watching a YouTube video which was easy and straightforward to follow. I liked that I learnt something new from this project and I know I can use that effect again in the future without having to research it.
How was looking at other title sequences useful (2.1)?
To expand my knowledge of title sequence I searched best TV title sequences on YouTube. The one that stood out to me the most was True Detective. I liked how they showed the characters merging with the locations in the show. This made me realise that showing the characters and locations allows the audience to see what the show will look will like which will let them know if they'll like it or not. Watching other title sequences expanded my knowledge of how they should look especially with my target audience. As my target audience people that enjoy crime I wanted to watch other title sequences that had the genre crime/drama so I can relate to it.
How hard was planning your work to meet the deadline (2.1)?
At the start of the project I figured out how long I will need to plan and produce the title sequence and when I will do it. However as time went on, I started to find it difficult to keep up to speed with the work because I had two other projects to do as well as the title sequence. With having three projects to do, it was hard to find enough time for all of them to do as they were all as important as each other. I feel as though my work wasn't at it's absolute best as I would've put more time in it if I was able to. In despite of that, I did manage to hand in my title sequence on time which is what is important.
What changes to your workflow could you make in future projects to improve your outcome?
In future, I would change my workflow by writing down the days and times of when I'll work but also making sure there's time for if I get behind on the work. I think this will improve my outcome because I will have the time planned to make any amends to my work so it will be at its best quality. I learnt that I should do this from doing my title sequence because with that, I didn't have any time to go over my work and make adjustments to it which is ideally what I would've liked too off done. Also, with this project I found myself getting behind on the work so I felt stressed about it so next time I do not want this to happen which is why a schedule for when I work will solve this.
How could you improve your presentation skills (get feedback if you haven’t yet)?
After doing my presentation, I learnt that I should've included more slides particularly about the target audience as that is what this project is about. I should've done this as I didn't have enough detail about it especially about the type of audience. If I did this then my presentation would've been more clear so now I know that I need more detail in the important slides for next time. I could improve my presentation skills by being more confident in what I'm saying. When doing my presentation for my title sequence, I was unsure on what I was saying as I didn't feel that it was good enough. However, what I wrote on the slides was perfectly fine so if I sounded more confident in reading it then my presentation would've gone better as I would've sounded more proud of my work. So next time I do a presentation I am going to believe in my work more and speak highly of it so I come across confident and not shy.
Who would you say is the target audience for your title sequence (consider: age range, gender, interests)?
When we’re talking about audience theory is there a theory that you could relate to your own title sequence, perhaps in terms of how you’d hope an audience responds, or whether you could bring in an element of representation?
How successful were you at evidencing your progression and work as you went along?
When it came to evidencing my progression and work as I went a long, I didn't take any photos for this or write it down. The reason why I didn't do this I think is because I didn't have a schedule to do work so I just did it whenever I could and so I didn't plan what go do for each day. Another reason why I think I didn't do this is because I thought to just do the work and not put any time in to evidence it as I thought it would take up time where I could be working. However, I have learnt that it is important to evidence my work so it is clear what I have done each day and to prove that I am doing the work.
Which elements of what you did might be useful to you in your FMP?
