Animation - Me
Project: Animation
Brief:
Me (or if you prefer, Who I Am And What I Want)
20-30 seconds of animation
PROCESS:
Create a new page or blog, label it Animation Brief
Reflect on the brief and plan the time you have.
Consider: What is manageable
What are your initial thoughts and ideas
What will ‘success’ look like to you
Bullet-point the research/pre-production work you’ve done so far
Evaluate it – is it enough
If you don’t have any ideas yet in response, take some time and do some animation research, considering both abstract/non-narrative as well as traditional, and animation methods (stop-frame vs Animate etc)
Consider what extra skills are needed for your chosen idea
Summarise your plan and present it to the teacher (Organise a presentation slot)
Extend your learning if necessary
Create an eight frame storyboard and synopsis/script (with action in), once signed off...
Create your animation
Time:
The time I have to do this project is Tuesday 10:50 - 12:20, Thursday 9:00 - 10:30 and Friday 1:05 - 2:40 every week.
What is manageable:
So that I'm working on schedule and not getting behind on work, I have decided to choose an animation style that I am confident in using. The animation style I have chosen to do is stop-motion. I have enjoyed using this style and I know what I am doing while creating the animation and editing it so I know when it comes to production I won't be stuck on how to do stuff which would waste time. I will be doing the production of this animation in college as all the materials/resources I need are there. These materials/resources are stuff like: plasticine, camera, computer and software. This means that I don't need to worry about getting these resources which saves me time.
Initial thoughts:
My first initial ideas for this project was to do Claymation. This is because I feel most confident in doing this style of animation as I enjoyed it the most and I know how to do it well compared to other styles. To represent me I thought I could have the animation of a character eating then throwing up as they are allergic to the food. This will give a comical effect to it. This relates to me because I am gluten free but I don't want the character in the animation to be me as that is too personal to show.
What will success look like to you:
To me success from this project is for me to be proud of my work. I want to be able to be happy with the work I've done and have it a high quality. I also see success as being more happy to do animation as its my least favourite type of media but this project could change my opinion on that.
Research/pre-production I've done so far:
- Researched a film, TV show and Japanese TV show that are animation.
- Researched five different styles of animations those being: Claymation, 3D, Anime, Sand and Cut-out.
- Created an animation of a ball bouncing and a bowling ball in animate.
- Created an animation in the style Claymation using Dragonflame.
- lip syncing
1/12/20
Today I will be creating the character out of plasticine.
I successfully made the character in this lesson and I even had time to create the burger as well.
3/12/20
Today I will be creating a character out of plasticine.
I created the waitress for my animation but I found the plasticine difficult to mould as it was very hard. This made the task longer to do but I managed it complete by the end of the lesson.
4/12/20
Today I will be practising my animation.
I wanted to practice my animation so I knew more of what I was doing when I actually create it. However as I was at home, I was unable to use DragonFlame for it. This meant I had to download an app called Stop Motion and use that to film and edit it.
I think it went successfully but it made me realise how much time it will take to film the animation so I now know I need to take more time out of my day to create it. I also realised after filming this that I have to be careful not to move the set about between each shot as that's what happened with the table.
